Implicit Sexism
Hi, I was wondering why you only show women in your blog. Is it not true that their are also men (of all colors) who trivialize Africa and its diversity? Indeed, it was rich men who colonized most of Africa by degrading men and women of all colors. Also, by only showing women, you re-enforce the gender stereotypes that women are silly and stupid. Please expand your blog so it includes people of...

Fan Mail from Loyal GGTA Reader
If any of you wonder about what kinds of emails we get on the regular, here is a prime example. We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we did! To Whomever it Concerns: Have you ever been to Africa before? Do you do charity work? Maybe these girls are privileged, maybe they have more money than you and that makes you feel insecure but at least they’re making a difference. What are you doing...

Hey Gurls!
We just wanted to say thanks for all the support this past year! We’re coming back from some great holiday festivities here in the Third World (much more authentic and anti-capitalist) but don’t worry—your messages and emails are not going unread.  XOXO African Love

Anonymous asked: You're right. Reverse racism doesn't exist. Only racism, which entails hatred and discrimination for a person because of their race that they were arbitrarily born with. Excluding white people from this is an attempt to justify unwarranted prejudice and hate for a group because of their race.

Gerard Butler goes to Africa
Gerard Butler, holding a gun, protecting a young Sudanese baby. And to cap it all, the slogan: Hope is the greatest weapon of all…if you don’t count that machine gun in his hand. What do you think? Can Gerard Butler save all of the African babies?

great critique of the typical travel-to-africa...
http://africasacountry.com/2011/02/28/the-smiling-faces-of-young-africans/# Sent in by a reader If you haven’t looked at this blog, you should. Great writing, videos, and more for an audience wanting something other than the typical “look at Africa and these poor African babies and oh they’re so impoverished” narrative.

How to Write About Africa
an excerpt from an amazing article by Binyavanga Wainaina Always use the word ‘Africa’ or ‘Darkness’ or ‘Safari’ in your title. Subtitles may include the words ‘Zanzibar’, ‘Masai’, ‘Zulu’, ‘Zambezi’, ‘Congo’, ‘Nile’, ‘Big’, ‘Sky’, ‘Shadow’, ‘Drum’, ‘Sun’ or ‘Bygone’. Also useful are words such as ‘Guerrillas’, ‘Timeless’, ‘Primordial’ and ‘Tribal’. Note that ‘People’ means Africans who are not...

How To Take Photos Of Africa Or Where Intent And... →
fyeahafrica: Binyanvanga Wainaina’s essay How to Write About Africa remains one of the most powerfully insightful criticism and accusation of the continued dehumanization and oppression of Africa and Africans that continues in modern day language, photography, fine art, literature, poetry and the stultifying and lobotomizing rhetoric of so-called aid organizations and their employees. It...
